Welcome to our interim website. Founded in 1969, the North Vancouver Community Arts Council is a grassroots, non-profit community cultural organization whose mandate is to enable emerging and established artists in all disciplines, bridge cultures and build strong communities through the arts and heritage.
Located in CityScape Community Art Space at 335 Lonsdale Avenue, the North Vancouver Community Arts Council is a charitable organization consisting of a volunteer Board of Directors, an Executive Director and support staff, and dedicated volunteers.
The membership is approximately 400 and includes individuals, students, seniors, families, cultural groups and businesses.

Membership entitles you to our bi-monthly newsletter which is full of information about community arts events, classes and workshops, opportunities for artists in all media throughout the Lower Mainland and information about our group members and their activities. Membership also entitles you to a voice within the organization and a vote at the AGM, discounts at local retailers and invitations to all of our opening receptions at CityScape Community Art Space. In addition, you will receive a discount on jury fees for our “Open Call” exhibits at CityScape Community Art Space and allows you to participate in the following NVCAC programs and events: Art Rental, as an artist or a patron, Art in Public Places, Art in the Garden Tour and May is Art Month as an artist.
Group members are able to promote their organization or club and its activities through our newsletter and to include their promotional material in our member mailouts and display it at our offices.

The Gift Box We are always looking for artisans for a four-month contract in our gallery Gift Box, which is located in the CityScape Gallery. We are specifically looking for small, impulse-buy gift items, with reasonable prices and a broad demographic appeal. Artists chosen must be members of the North Vancouver Community Arts Council. The artist will collect 70% of the sale of each item, with 30% going to the North Vancouver Community Arts Council. Royalties will be paid out to the Artist at the conclusion of the contract. Volunteer Opportunities The North Vancouver Community Arts Council is looking for interested and enthusiastic individuals who love their community and the arts - and want to volunteer and have fun with us at our many unique events! Gardeners that participate are offered an enjoyable opportunity to share a love of gardening with enthusiastic fellow aficionados and art lovers alike. This self-directed tour brings together visual artists, musicians and gardeners for a collaborative feast of the senses. The Art in the Garden Tour is a two-day event that takes place during the last weekend in May and features award winning gardens, accomplished visual artists and talented musicians from the North Shore. Call for 2D and 3D Artists The North Vancouver Community Arts Council is currently accepting submissions for our Art in the Community Programme. This exhibition programme takes place at two venues: The District Foyer Gallery in the District Municipal Hall; and The District Library Gallery in the Lynn Valley Main Library. It invites visual artists in all medium including painting, photography, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, wood and metal work. Successful candidates will be awarded with an eight week exhibition at one of these high profile venues, complete with an opening reception and broad based promotion. Curatorial staff at the NVCAC will determine which venue is best suited for each of the qualifying artists. Artists participating in the Art in the Community Programme are only allowed one show per year at either of these two venues. This programme is facilitated by the North Vancouver Community Arts Council in partnership with the District of North Vancouver and the District Lynn Valley Main Library. It is designed to enable emerging artists to gain exposure and experience the professional orchestration and hanging of a show in a public environment, celebrating and promoting artists and exposing the public to art in non-traditional environments.

Art in the Community Programme Submission Guidelines The District Foyer Gallery / The District Library Gallery
The Art in the Community Programme, run by the North Vancouver Community Arts Council has a mandate to celebrate and enable emerging artists through a professional exhibition in a public space, which serves both to promote artists and to increase public awareness of art.
This programme currently has two exhibition locations; 2D display at The District Library Gallery at Lynn Valley Main Library and 2D and 3D display at the District Foyer Gallery at the North Vancouver District Hall. The artist call is for both venues and the qualifying artists will be allocated to a venue by the curatorial staff at the NVCAC. Artists will not be booked for more than one show per year in either venue.
Programme Requirements:
· Becoming a member of the North Vancouver Community Arts Council
· The artists collaborate on hosting an opening reception by providing food or snacks (the NVCAC/Library provides non-alcoholic punch and coffee.
· If your pieces are for sale, the NVCAC handles the arrangements and payment and takes a 30% administration fee.
Exhibition Submissions must include the following items:
1. An artist’s statement and biography 2. List of works including title, medium, size, and price. If the work is not for sale, a value is still necessary. 3. 15 – 20 photographs (printed or on disk) of completed artworks that you are proposing and are available for the exhibition. Photos must be numbered or titled to match the corresponding list of works. Artwork cannot have been displayed on the North Shore within a 6 month period. (Submissions via email and websites are not acceptable at this time) 4. The proposed artwork must be representative of a collection of artwork cohesive in theme, color and/or subject matter. If work is framed please include picture of frame. All frames should be similar in appearance. Unframed canvases are acceptable however all four sides must be finished. 5. Artwork must be framed properly and wired using two eyehooks, D-rings, eyelets or their equivalent, on the back of the frame. The paintings are hung with a track system that uses construction string to be threaded through the eyelet hole. Important- In order for the artwork to hang properly on the wall please make sure eyelets are installed approximately ¼ from the top of the piece or the work will lean forward from the wall.

Artwork must be able to fit inside a 3’x3’x3’6” glass display case. Case doors have a clearance of 1.5’

Call for Crafters North Vancouver Community Arts Councilholds a number of outdoor craft fairs during the summer months. We will be holding a jury for all of our 2010 Summer Craft Fairs on March 18th, at CityScape Community Art Space at 335 Lonsdale Avenue. All exhibitors must be members of the Arts Council.
